Pool Spa Combo - Treating Spa Water

My pool/spa is being finished withing a few week and I've been reading as much as I can about the TFP method. One item I cannot find is how to treat a SPA that has a spillway into the pool. My guess is I treat each separately and then adjust chemicals after all swimmers have left, bringing each back to normal ranges. The heated spa water will probably play havoc on the pool water chemical ratios. I don't plan on using bromine, just chlorine. Any thoughts on this much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

With an integrated spa with your pool, you treat the entire system as one. When the valves are set up you should have some flow through the spa for at least a portion of each day. You do not want a full on spillover all the time, that will drive your pH up quickly.

The heated water has little effect on the pool water body. The spa volume is normally less than 1/10th the pool volume.

It is imperative you have a proper test kit to manage your pool water chemistry.

Order a TF100 test kit
The only other real option for a test kit is a Taylor K-2006-C. Be careful comparing prices because the K-2006 comes in sizes, designated by a letter. The basic K-2006 has .75oz bottles. You need to get the K-2006-C to get the larger bottles that you want. Even then it is a little short on the reagent & powder for the FAS/DPD test.

I also have the SpeedStir. It makes testing much easier.

I also suggest you start reviewing Trouble Free Pool School

Take care.

Thank you MKNAUSS! I bought the K-2006 test kit. I am now seeing on this site the TF100 is the test kit to go with, oh well....once I use up the bottles in this kit I will get the TF100. I have read through the Trouble Free pool School several times, and am still learning of course. Thanks again!
