Hi, Im wondering is it recommended to shock the pool weekly? biweekly? This would be in addition to shocking whenever combined chlorine is high, heavy rainfall and/or high pool loads. Any suggestions?

Also, is all pool shock created equal? My store gave me powder shock.

Thank you

Rick,

If you follow the TFP pool care process, you never have to add pool store shock to your pool..

No matter how you add chlorine to your pool, if you always maintain your FC per this chart, no shock is necessary.. FC/CYA Levels

We do things differently than most pool $tores do.. You should take a good read through our Pool School and see what we are all about..

Thanks,

Jim R.

ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

CC- Combined Chlorine

Combined chlorine is an intermediate breakdown product created in the process of sanitizing the pool. CC causes the “chlorine” smell many people associate with chlorine pools. If CC is above 0.5ppm, you should SLAM your pool. CC indicates that there is something in the water that the FC is in the process of breaking down. In an outdoor pool, CC will normally stay at or near zero as long as you maintain an appropriate FC level and the pool gets some direct sunlight.
