It should still hold pressure. But, as said above, that seal is designed to support a vacuum not positive pressure so it shouldn't leak in use.
Pumps are capable of being pressure tested, and they are pressure tested before they leave manufacturers.
This is also indicated in the manufacturers literature & the reason new equipment will often have water inside it when unboxed.
Some areas require the entire system to be fully charged during the inspection processes.
