My brother wants to install a 12X22 foot by 52inch deep above ground pool on top of an unused portion of his asphalt driveway. The manual says not to install it over asphalt. Anyone know the reason why? Could it be the asphalt can't properly support the 58,000 pound weight of the pool? The driveway is not quite level so there will be a layer of sand over the asphalt. Should he do it? Any suggestions around base preparation/installation would be appreciated.

 Welcome to TFP!!!

The only reasons I can think of for not putting a pool on asphalt would be
1. A possible interaction between the vinyl and the oils in the asphalt
2. The legs may sink into the asphalt as it is fairly soft when hot

Mats and/or sand could avoid issue #1, and perhaps some thin pavers or plywood could help with #2?

Certainly need to ensure the structure is leveled to with 1" all the way around.
