Pool near top of slope

Hi everyone,

I am in the planning stages of a pool and spa for my back yard but I have some questions I am hoping you can help me with. My pool would need to be built roughly 3 to 4ft away from the top of a descending slope in order to fit in my yard. The slope is 1:1 and roughly 40ft to the bottom. I am wondering if this distance is sufficient or what would need to be engineered to prevent my pool from falling down the hill? If anyone has a pool like this I'd love to hear from you as well.

Thank you!

Welcome to TFP.

The pool needs to be properly engineered for your slope and soil. You may need piers or a retaining wall. We have seen some nice pools built into slopes.

Make sure you get engineered plans stamped by an engineer to know he put his reputation behind the design. Many pool builders use generic plans without engineers stamps.
