You could use these and they would probably work just fine... Still use the silicone on all the connections and put the power supply and power ends in a waterproof box...

I looked for hours on what I could use under the ledge, really wanted rope or led strips. Finally just ordered these. I've sealed them with some kind of tape my SO had. I have not used them yet, but will try and get them in tonight and take a picture

As an update for anyone who comes across this in a search, I super sealed these lights at the threads and they still eventually leaked before the end of the season. I tossed all of them. These particular ones aren't currently available, but they are sold by a bunch of vendors under different names.
I have this light, and I see it's expensive now but I'd say still worth it. It was super easy to install and easily lights up the entire pool. Kids like the remote with all the different colors and lighting modes for fun night swims.
