I did a quick search but did not find a definitive answer as to whether pool light assemblies and niches follow some sort of mounting standard and are interchangeable.

Originally my thought was that they the light and niche were unique to each other and not cross brand interchangeable however as I am looking at new light fixtures it appears that I may be able to keep the old niche and replace just the light fixture IF I can get the old cord out of the conduit....big if!

It would save me a lot of work/aggravation/sweat/tears/blood, etc. if I could "simply" replace the light fixture.

My pool is a hybrid so I believe replacing niche would not involve concrete demo.

No idea the brand of the niche. It is made of copper if that helps at all and the pool was built in 1970. It has a screw at the top and a notch at the bottom for the current chrome beauty ring.

I will post a pic if the water level has not risen above the niche over the winter.

What say the experts?

Thanks

Jay

Copper light niche usually was StaRite. Is the light fixture copper? That would be a StaRite light. They are slightly smaller than the more standard Amerilte. There are few lights that fit that niche.

Yes, the fixtures are copper as well. I found a few pics I took during my last rehab in 2016 however, no way to tell if they are original to the pool.

I do recall searching for American Sanitary but was not successful finding any meaningful.

Seems about right.

April 9, 1969. Sta-Rite announced last week it had completed purchase of American Sanitary Manufacturing.

My thanks to all who replied and gave advice and insight.

I have no doubt that I would still be trying to figure out next steps rather than where to buy the solution.

The J&J LPL-F2CW-12-30-PSQ fixture look like a winner.

I would ask Pentair and J&J just to be 100% sure before you buy a light.

The light is expensive and they will not take a return if it does not fit.

54 years is a long time for equipment.

Verify the actual dimensions of the current light and niche including the screw and tab spacing.

Get pictures of the niche for comparison.

I pulled the cover back today and took a pic of the niche.

It is a crappy pic but hoping someone is able to identify the manufacturer.

The diameter of the opening is approximately 10"

The center to center measure for the SwimQuip J&J light is 8" so that leads me to believe this is not a SwimQuip niche.

I think that a Large style Pentair light will probably work.

Get the exact scale drawing and send it to Pentair to confirm.

James,

Thank you for your research and detailed response. Very helpful

I will do as you recommend and make a detailed drawing of my niche then reach out to Pentair for their opinion
