Pool filled, follow to see a complete newb hopefully figure it out

Great question... @ajw22 @Leebo Not really clear in the startup guide...
The TFP article is generic covering a wide range of products.

Follow the manufacturer recommendations when it is available.

NPT says not to add chlorine for 3 days, PTI says as soon as the pump is on, the “generic” TFP says not to for 3 days. So I guess I am wondering which is the most recommended or trusted because it seems in various different threads today people (me) were to add chlorine even though it was finished yesterday and filled today while others are told not to add chlorine for 3 days. Just wondering how different advice is being given for the same thing. I’m genuinely not trying to be a nuisance. Anyway, what’s the potential issues of adding chlorine before day 3 so I know what I might need to look for?

If you want to wait, then wait.

PTI is the manufacturer of your PebbleTech finish. The others you are reading are not.

I don’t have PebbleTech, I have a pebble radiance finish which is from a different company and is listed in my signature. Seeing how chlorine was already added it’s not exactly an option to just wait anymore. My plan is to hold 3-4ppm fc until Friday at this point and then add the cya on the 3rd day and bring it up to 40-50. I understand you guys are all volunteers and I very much appreciate the knowledge and time everyone puts into this site. I am just trying to learn and not screw it up in the process

If you still have reservations about that chlorine you added,...... don't With no CYA in the water, it will be gone in a few hours. No worries. Follow your builder's recommendations and we'll be here to get you going when you're ready. Easy stuff.

What company is the Pebble Radiance from?

Do they have startup information on their website?

Unfortunately I could not find the start up info on the website. It seems like it might be a proprietary blend from my pool builder potentially from universal but I’m not positive of that. The person they sent out to do start up wasn’t overly helpful and said the water was good to swim even though it had zero sanitation. Does my plan of keeping it 3-4ppm until tomorrow the (3rd day) then adding cya sound like an ok way of handling things at this point.

A pool that has just been filled is as sanitary as bathing in your bathtub. Your water is only 2 days old. What would have made it unsanitary? Go jump in your new pool.

You know more about your situation then we do. Things keep on getting revealed to us.

I mean, I said my pool was just filled gave my levels and was told to immediately get chlorine, cya and MA in the water. I added chlorine and MA. I’ve given you all the information I have via my signature, responses and tests using the recommended kit. I’m not sure what other info you need to continue to provide accurate direction but if I’m missing anything please just ask and I will answer to the best of my ability. I get a little bit frenzied when I feel overwhelmed but I believe the thread so far is legible. Currently the pool water is very clear and I will be running another set of tests shortly to see where the chlorine and ph levels are.

I guess that is where I am confused. It says after 72 hours to start adding chlorine and cya? Is that 72 hours after fill or the pebble was done? Mine only just finished filling this morning.
Filled is different then filling. The thread title started with

“Pool filled, …”

Pebble is the brand name for PebbleTech versus an unknown pebble finish.

Our advice is only as accurate as the information we get.

The title of the thread was “Pool filling” until last night a picture of a low filled pool was also included in the initial post. It was then changed to “pool filled” as it progressed which seems to normally be suggested here. Also as is suggested my signature states pebble radiance as a finish. The information I’ve provided is accurate

@New2pools520, it's easy to feel overwhelmed, especially when you want the best outcome for your very expensive investment. We totally understand. Since there are quite a few customized start-up processes out there, sometimes it can be a little frustrating. :brickwall: We will do our best to help you with that anxiety.

In the majority of cases, the builder "usually" provides their own start-up instructions. Even then, we find some of them can be a bit questionable, but most are in the ballpark. Since you filled Tuesday, it's a bit early to worry about too much from a chemical perspective. When I visited your thread a couple days ago, you were filling and preparing for items to buy, and that's a good plan. No need to rush about manipulating any levels until day 3. If your builder visits you by then (which they should), perfect. If they get delayed for some reason, pop back here and let us know. We can coach you through some questions for your builder to ask over the phone so that your water remains sanitary.

Nothing to worry about at this point. Even if you did add a chemical or two already, it's not going to ruin anything. Hang in there. Grab a nice beverage, go out there and sit by your pool and just stare at it. It's a beautiful thing.

Figured I’d pop in and give an update. Pool is on day 4 of being filled

FC 7
CC .5
PH 7.7
TA 125
CH 225
CYA 60 Rounded up from 55

Pool company opened the skimmer yesterday, installed the salt cell and lights. They will be back to add salt in 30 days. I’ve been brushing numerous times a day, not seeing much plaster dust. I added 2 gallons of liquid Stabilizer yesterday and have been dosing LC and MA as needed. Pool is crystal clear as seen in the pic! CH will come up on its own eventually, and TA will go down over time with aeration and dosing MA. If I’m not mistaken all I need to do now is make a few margaritas and open the umbrellas right??

Good Morning,

The pool company is introducing salt today. Just wondering what the recommendations are if any for things to be aware of?

How many pounds of salt is being added?
Started with 350lbs and will add more in a few days if needed. I was able to find most answers to my question via search. I’ll leave the pool on high for 24 hours which will leave the cell off. Tomorrow I will test salt levels bump up to my target fc levels with liquid chlorine and then let the swg take over at 50% and see where I’m at tomorrow night fc wise. Over the weekend I will go get a bit more stabilizer and bump my cya 15-20 ppm to the middle of recommended levels. Please advise if I should be aware of anything else. Thank you
