Pool controller assistance requested. Mine has quit

I have a Goldline Aqua Logic controller which I believe is made by Hayward. The transformer feeding the panel was hot and giving a burning smell so I replaced it. I noticed a relay on the board was bad as well so I replaced it. I still have no power to the salt cell according to my display panel. At this point with it being 17 years old I'm assuming replacing it with an upgraded new unit would be the wisest choice. It looks like the replacement from Hayward is the Omni PL upgrade kit. My concern is first the board looks almost identical to my current non functioning one, second is it looks like the only enhancement made in 17 years is being able to connect to wifi and use their app. I replaced my main pump with a Century vs pump a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I can only change the speed on the pump itself. The only thing I would like to be able to control with an app would be that pump. I don't think the $1500 plus tax for the Omni PL is worth the upgrade being I still won't be able to control the pump speed unless I replace the Century vs pump with one of Haywards for hundreds more. Any ideas for those of you that are more experienced with what is currently available? My pool has two remote pads to control everything wirelessly via a channel one or two system (NOT wifi) with the control box having a stubby antenna on it, an attached spa that both use one pump(the vs), two electric switching valves by Jandy, infinity edge requiring a pump, a pump for the spa jets, a nat gas heater, a spa light, and two pool lights by Hayward(one is out and will stay out for 1k to replace it). So three pumps, three lights, two valves, and a heater to control. Oh and of course it is a salt water pool with a year old salt cell. Any recommendations would be appreciated before I more forward. I'm currently filtering fine and just adding liquid chlorine to keep the pool open and useable.

Welcome to TFP.

Show us pics of the Century pump you want to control with automation since that is your primary requirement.

You don't have a Century pump, but a Century motor. Unless it is one of the newer EVO motors with Century Connect built in, no automation will directly communicate with it. Which motor do you have?

Will do, here they are.

If that is a VGreen 165 @MSchutzer got his to talk to work with his Jandy Aqualink using RS-485

@setsailsoon used digital inputs that can be triggered by relays in any automation panel...

Thanks for all the ideas! Can I ask two basic questions? First are you all saying go with the Omni PL upgrade or something else? And second if I go with a wifi enabled board what do you all use the app to do? With my two remotes I can control and program everything remotely from the house (except the vs pump) rather than the equipment pad which is not convenient to get to. Thanks for the direction.

The choice of automation is yours. A completely new system (brand) will require that your Goldline be removed and a new power center installed with a reinstallation of all the wiring (with a larger labor cost if not a DIY). Its a big job, even with a simple pool, I've done many. If the upgrade kit will fit, that is the easier replacement.

If your motor is a Vgreen165 then you have the option to enable the Jandy protocol on it. See this link that @ajw22 posted above.

With the Jandy protocol enabled you can use Jandy's standalone IQpump01 controller (~$200 dollars) which provides WiFi enabled control via the iAqualink phone app.

If you go to then end of that thread you will see that several folks have recently enabled the Jandy protocol and converted to the IQpump01 controllers as the Century Vlink standalone controllers seem to have some issues.

This option is only available for the Vgreen165 as the Vgreen270 version doesn't allow the Jandy protocol to be enabled.

Great option, except that the poster has a Hayward system.
