Pool company bait and switch - automation fail fix?

So I am a remote owner of an AIRBNB with a pool that needs to stay warm year round. It’s indoors luckily.

The heart of the issue is that i paid a pool company to set up automation to be able to control the pump speeds, control the electric heater, and control the heat pump heater. Ie: when it’s too cold I can switch to pure electric etc.

The issue is now they are telling me the automation won’t control the pump speeds and I have to just leave it on max speed 24/7. Which I don’t want to to…

I have the following:

Hayward Omni PL part number HLPRO4NW

Superflo 1.5HP Variable Speed Pump from Pentair

Pentair Ultratemp 120q heat pump

Raypak electric heater.

How can I get my Omni to control the pump speeds with the equipment I currently have?

Thank you,

Ps: bonus points if there is a way for the system to detect ambient air temp and switch automatically as needed to maintain temp but prioritize heat pump as it’s much more efficient

Your pool company sold you a mutt of pool equipment that has compatibility issues since they are from different manufactures.

You should have got a Hayward pump that works with Hayward automation.

Really, the easiest thing is to change your pump for a Hayward TriStar pump that is compatible with the OmniPL.

What model Raypak electric heater do you have?

To be fair to them - this was a second pool company that came in after the fact. Had no automation before. The raypak is an E3T 11kw. I’m more upset that they said it would work and it clearly doesn’t

The Pump Converter accessory board (HLPMPCONV) gives the ability to control Pentair Intelliflo VS pumps. I do not know if it will work with the Superflow VS pump. You can see if Hayward can tell you or just buy one and try it.

The HLPMPCONV board connects to the Omni RS-485 bus with 4 wires and the IntelliFlo RS-485 data port with 2 yellow/green wires.

This Hayward Technical Update provides additional information on setting up the Omni Pump Converter board.

Let's see if @ChrisLPC can earn the bonus.

With a Pentair VS pump and UltraTemp Heat Pump the pool company should have put in a Pentair IntelliCenter Lite automation system.

Had no automation before.
They chose the wrong automation.

Ask/Tell them to come back and install the correct automation.

If they can't/won't, have a different company do the work and return the Hayward automation to the first company.

The IntelliCenter will control the pump (Newer Versions) and it will allow a Heat Pump Preferred Setting.

Seems like a bunch of different brands with not much compatibility. Either go all Hayward or all Pentair. The heaters don’t matter they will communicate with anything. The Omni PL has the ability to prioritize heaters although I have never had to mess with these functions.
