Pool closing

Good morning!!

I am about to start the pool closing process. After reading your article in Pool School, I understand that I need to balance PH, TA and CH, then SLAM the pool. When I close it, I need to add PolyQuat...which product do you recommend? Is it the same as winterizing powder?
Do I need to add borax tablet dispensers? Any thoughts on the winter pill?
We used to buy winterizing kits on Poolsupply.com (RX Clear winter chlorine closing kits).
Thank you for your help.
Have a great day!

The polyquat is not necessary. None of the other items you mentioned would help you in the long run. You really just need to get your water balanced and raise your FC to slam level.

I’ve followed the advice here for 3+ years and always open a crystal clear pool in the spring. I do wait until October to close mine. The water should stay below 60 until you open.

Polyquat 60 is an insurance policy against a green pool at startup.

How_To_Use_Polyquat_60_in_Pool_Winterization?

Polyquat lasts longer than chlorine especially in sunlight. The main advantage of using Polyquat on closing is that in a pool exposed to any sunlight, the Polyquat will last, especially if the water is cold, so will help to prevent algae growth even if the chlorine level gets to 0. If you cover a pool and close it when cold, then chlorine can last a long time.

Just get pure Polyquat 60 from any of the brands.
