Pool Build in Process…water getting murky!

Hello!
Our turn finally came, and our pool build is underway. We are going with a Latham Monaco (fiberglass) pool (16x40). We are a bit held up due to permitting issues. The pool was filled about 5 days ago, and is getting gross obviously. (Lots of trees around.) The autocover won’t get put on for at least another week I’m guessing. As total newbs, we are clueless—is it normal to let the water get all grossed out right at the beginning? Should we have dumped some shock in right away to help prevent algae, grossness, etc? Or should I just chill out and trust the process? Thanks for your advice!385ADF9D-D07E-44ED-9E1E-05A2082BCE1E.jpeg

Have you checked with the pool builder if they will even run the equipment at all?

Scooping out the leaves and adding some liquid chlorine will not hurt.

Congrats UD !!! Looking sharp !! (Besides the tea, which is temporary)

We should definitely ask! I think everything will be hooked up pretty soon, so hopefully it can get cycled a bit. Do you have any idea how much chlorine we should add? The pool is about 20,000 gallons, though There’s probably only 17,000 in there I’m guessing. Thanks!

1 gallon of 10% liquid chlorine will add 5 ppm of FC to 20000 gallons.

Do you have a test kit?

Download PoolMath

It's easy to set up your configuration and the. Click on any tab to see the details. Take FC for example. Enter your CYA (known as a 0 with fill water, if none was added)

Then the next two Tabs are your current FC and the desired FC.

Then select one of a bunch of chlorine sources and it will tell you how much to add at the bottom.

All the test paramater fields have a similar interface. Let us know if you have any questions once you're playing with it. :)
