Pool Build - California Dreaming - 3 Years Closer

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

Well I could not sit idle.

Today we framed out and are ready to lathe for stucco the arches that connect the concrete pillars in the front of the swim up bar and leading to the pool house. They are looking very BIG but very nice. The nature of the columns and arches really make the build look elegant, monumental even, and tie very nicely to the mediterranean design of the main house. We actually have incorporated several of the main house's features. Best regards.

Spillmar:

What style stucco are you using? We have had stucco put in that is very smooth (e.g. Santa Barbara style) and has a very old school appearance. I really like the look and feel of it. Whatever you do, never paint over stucco. Fog coat if you need to update. BTW, we are not far from you. I really think you have done an excellent job in your pool and outdoor landscaping job!

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

Here are a few pics of the column/arches. You can see they are not going anywhere as each base has been anchored and epoxy-ed. The framing is nothing I would try to do myself, as this archway will be a major support for the roof to go on the pool house/cabana later. The job was completed by Damian De Lapp Builders in Corona, CA who I highly recommend for anyone doing any framing work or needing a good detail-oriented and professional builder. Top notch outfit. The last couple pictures show the skeleton and then the pre-stuco finished arches. They loook massive now but when the main structure is built they should blend in nice with the architecture. I plan to add a light latern at each arch meeting point. Let me know your thoughts. Best regards.

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

Hey do I see some countertops in the kitchen area? :)

Can I ask why the wall between the swim up bar and the kitchen is so high? It seems like that top row of blocks could be removed? My aesthetic opinion limited of course on pics not being the same as the real thing in person. What are your plans for finishing those blocks?

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

Thanks Carl
Yes I had some granite tops completed and installed earlier this month. We found a darker granite with blue specks called Blue Pearl which should coordinate nice with glass backsplash and the stainless cabinetry.

The wall is higher to provide a splash wall from pool (water polo) as well as provide a small transition serving counter where plates and such can be put. Perhaps lowering it a row may help. Well see how high the poured counter will make it. I donnit know yet - I was looking at a travertine decorative tile or just glass tile.

Thanks again.

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

I forgot about the wave factor with a lot of kids splashing around. It's one thing for water to go up on the deck may not be so nice if you're in there cooking though.

Let's see some pics of the countertops please :)

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

We are about to begin to build the side patio which will connect to the pool deck. This includes a 650 sq ft paved patio with a large fountain. We are also going to remove two windows in the master bedroom and replace them with a large french door that would open up to the patio and make the pool more accessible to the main house.

Yesterday I got a very good idea from our gardener in how to get pool water to the slide when he noticed the slide connected to the garden hose. He noticed something which I totally missed and that was that I could tie into the pool plumbing through the indeck laminar. The idea was brilliant actually as I could easily put a valve which would send more pressure to that particular laminar and feed the slide water flow system.

Regards

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

Here is a rendering I did quickly in Google Sketch. If you haven't used Sketch yet, its a free program with 3D model library and great for quick renders.

This is the first design we have in mind for the side patio that will connect (step up) to the pool deck. To allow for easier access to the pool from the main house (and pool to bathroom ) we plan to remove two windows and put in a 6x8 double french door. We have a Henri made water fountain that will be slightly raised from patio with a seating wall around it and blended into the retaining wall. We are also removing a portion of the wall to the front to provide an additional rear entry for guests and for more private access to the pool house.

Not exactly pool related but part of our overall project. Any suggestions welcome.

Best regards.

Re: Pool Build - California Dreaming

I think it's a lot of open paved space, between the house and fountain. I would perhaps put in some small flowering trees. Depending on how much frost (if any) you get there, there are lots of options.
