Pool after a thunderstorm

Hi All,

We had a thunderstorm and my pool has gone brown. The thunderstorm was on Thursday and its Monday and its still brown and not clear.

I have been running my pump from past 3 days with 2-3 hours breaks. The skimmer had collected a lot of leaves and debris, that has been cleaned. The water chemistry seems all right.

I am thinking to clean the filters(its been 2 months anyway).

Any help will be appreciated.

What's your CYA and FC?
WE had had a few crazy storms but mine usually clears up after a couple hours but I did add a 1/4 gallon of 12% liquid chlorine .

Be sure to clean your filters when the pressure rises by 25% over clean pressure.

Pool filter gauge seems normal

I will keep running the pump.. hopefully that would clear up

I have that issue on occasion when we have heavy rain. I found that if you brush the pool every couple of hours (brush every surface you can get to) it clears it quite a bit faster.

Curious, what causes a pool to go cloudy in a rain storm? Clean rain water. Never happened with our pool.

In Phoenix, storms typically come with wind. In the desert, wind brings dirt. We many times have muddy rain. Really.

Our rain come through our dusty screen enclosure. So I assume there is gunk along with water falling into our pool.

How long you all think it should take? Thursday night the storm happened, its Tuesday morning. I do see improvement but did not expect it take this long. I expect another a day or two to clear up completely? Will shocking the pool help?

TFPC does not 'shock' a pool. We follow the SLAM Process, if necessary. But it sounds to me like you have dirt. You can do a Overnight Chlorine Loss Test tonight to check for organics.

Do you have any kind of vac system? Are you brushing/vacuuming the pool daily?

The pressure on the filter seems within range.
I am not scrubbing daily but I will do it every 3 hours today.
Yes I do have a vac system.

Depending on the size of the cartridge filter it may not go up much. Mine may go up a .5 pd

You have a good sized filter. If not, that much dirt would have started to plug it up by now.
