Got 3 years out of my PB4SQ before pump housing failed. Polaris wouldn’t stand behind by the unit when contacted. Feel they should be offering a recall for a defective design, plenty of companies do the right things these days. Overall liked the PB4SQ as a booster pump for efficiency and good flow. Mine ran @ ridiculously low 645 watts when cleaner was in use. I replaced the unit after trying to oh w/ new seals. still was leaking, and came to this website and saw all the others with pump housing problems. I found a new PB4SQ 2nd Gen that was $399, and that price was same as PB4-60, and ultimately was n easier swap, as long as you believe the pump is truly enhanced and corrected. After unboxing the 2nd Gen units clearly have more robust front housing compared to original design. Here are some pics of changes to housing, . Pretty obvious housing is much beefier. Hope this new style lasts longer.

1st pic - Bottom view w/ old housing left, new housing on right
2nd pic - Top view. New pump on left, old on right
3rd pic. old unit and what leak looks like when pumps not running
4th pic - Top view of water outlet. old pump on left, new pump on right

hopefully this helps show differences between 1st Gen & 2nd Gen.

Are retailers showing if they are selling a Gen1 or Gen2 PB4SQ pump?
