Polaris 380 not moving???

Hi All, I have a 380 polaris that is very weak in it's crawling ability, it stalls at the wall. I recently replaced a belt, other was ok. Put new tires on it a month ago. I replaced the screen where the hose plugs in the wall. I had a bunch of trouble with my DE filter grids slowly tormenting me as they gave up the ghost. Those have been replaced. Before that a lot of small debris was clogging the screen, clear now. The pump seems fine as best I can tell. So, I'm stumped with what to do. I'm hoping to replace it later in the year but for now it is needed to battle the huge oaks around the pool. Any thoughts?

Your wheel bearings have too much friction. Polaris sells rebuild kits that replace all the moveable parts in your 380. Rebuild the cleaner and it should climb the walls like new.

When you open the cleaner you may also find some of the internal hoses disconnected.

The Polaris pressure cleaners are great cleaners but a finely balanced machine. Water power has very little torque to overcome friction. The friction that builds up on the rotating parts slow the cleaner down.

Did you leave the proper amount of "slack" in the belts? If they are completely tight the cleaner will lock up and not move.

What is the wheel RPM when running? Should be 28-32.

Well, thanks for the replies, I checked the belts and they did seem bit tight, so I loosened them some. The bearings were replaced last year and appear ok. What I did find was that an o-ring on the backup gadget outlet had failed allowing significant bypass. I put a new one in and it still leaks. I put a second and it is moving. Not as fast as it should but moving. Not sure what the rpm is but well below 28-32 I think. Another weekend project ...

If you have a restricted disk in the wall outlet I'd suggest you remove it. I've found 11 out of 10 times it helped alot.

Your G53 backup mechanism may still be malfunctioning. You can replace the innards for $15-$20 on ebay or amazon

Likely you need a new housing for your back-up valve, G-52. Then, take the hose-float that is after the valve and shove it against the back of that case. It helps keep the valve from dragging on the pool surface and wearing that area out.
