I purchased a robot Vacuum last year and my pool was plumbed with a dedicated vacuum line that appears to never have been hooked up. I’m looking to convert it into another return and likely use it for a fountain. While I need to confirm that with a pressure test (shout-out to this site that explained its pretty easy to do) that there’s no issues with the line, I have a couple questions:

1) do I run any concerns with losing too much pressure creating an additional return?
2) how would you plumb into the existing system. Pipe 1 and 2 feed into my stair jets and pipe 3 feeds into both current returns
3) any other concerns I’m not thinking about?

My thought is to plumb with a 3 way valve off pipe 2 so I can turn fountain/return on or off or feed it more power as needed but how would I fit a 3 way valve or t on there as I’m assuming I won’t have much play up and down when I cut it?

Do you really need another return?

You don't have alot of room to get a valve into pipe 2 and I think you may open up a can of worms in cutting in there. If it does not go well you can end up redoing 1, 2 & 3 and the valve to get it done.

Yup that’s what I’ve been thinking. It would have been better to plumb another 3 way right after the swg and before the other 3 way. Unfortunately previous owner did that.
