Plumbing question

I recently had a new motor fitted to my intelliflo pump and since then I have had a trickle of water overflowing from the small white pipe that can been in the attached photo.
To help diagnose the issue I have a couple of questions:
- Is a pipe like that a standard part of pool plumbing and if so what is it for ?
- Would it be safe to just cap it off to stop the leak ?

I'm seeing a black plug of sorts with a silicon type gasket. But I was already right once this week, so no promises.

That cut off pipe went somewhere before it was cut off. It is useless the way it is.

If it has been cut off for a long time, then capping it makes sense.

Replacing the pump should have nothing to do with the pipe leaking now.

The pipe has always been there but never overflowed before now. I think the black thing in the photo is just a trick of the light as it is just a white pipe filled with water - no gaskets or anything. There is indeed a lot of gunk around the inside of the pipe.

I'm just double-checking with the company that did the work on the pump to make sure they didn't cut the pipe back for any reason then I'll go ahead and cap it. The guy that did that work also fixed a leak in another pipe so perhaps that has subtly changed the flows and caused water to start flowing up this seemingly redundant pipe?

The pipe looks broken off more than cut.

Do you have pictures of the whole system?

Do you have any openings in the pool that don't do anything?

Do you have pictures of the system from before the service call?

Here is a picture of the system. I see other random pipes coming out of the ground and serving no obvious purpose so perhaps someone redid the plumbing at some point and just left some old pipes in place.

I think I'm going to go ahead and cap this pipe to stop the leak.

Seems like a lot of unused pipes.

I would want to know what everything goes to.

Do you have a hot tub attached?

yes, there is a hot tub, but their are valves on the other pipes that control the flow to/from the hot tub.

Very sloppy if they left old unused pipes in the concrete like that. Only gives headaches to future owners/maintainers.

Its and old sprayer line, or fountain line, or auto fill. Something you no longer have. Just cap it off, or leave it as an over flow outlet.

Prior to capping the line, add a coupling and a section of 8" to 12" pipe. This will allow you to make connections in the future if needed. If you just cap it, it'll be too short to work with in the future.

In fact just putting as cap over the pipe without gluing has stopped the leak since it was only a trickle.
