Hello, I have 2 skimmers on the pool and when I plug one and install the kreepy krauly on the other skimmer the filter pressure drops to zero. The vacuum has plenty of suction and runs around the pool fine, there is no air coming in that I can tell although the filter basket is not completely full like it is when I run both skimmers open. If I leave the vacuum installed and unplug the other skimmer, the pressure on the filter rises. It does the same thing If I switch the vacuum to the other skimmer port and plug the other. I tried to lower the rpm of the pump and it did not make a difference.

What should I be looking for?

This happened recently after a big wind storm, I cleaned the filters this week after vacuuming all the dirt out and it did not help the pressure gauge.

Thank you

If you restrict the intake to a pump (like it’s only flow is through the pool cleaner) it reduces the pressure in the filter. That’s just normal hydraulics.

People may think high pressure in the filter is good and low pressure is bad.

It is the reverse. High pressure in the filter can indicate your flow is reduced and your pump is working harder and inefficiently. Low pressure in the filter indicates efficient flow through your pool plumbing.

Thank you for the reply, I understand that, but the problem is that it didn't do that before, it kept the same pressure whether the vacuum was installed or not especially at lower rpm's (1400).

high pressure indicates an issue after the filter inlet and low pressure indicates an issue before the filter so If I had a clogged line before the filter you would expect to see low pressure.

Is there anything else that might cause this sort of behavior that could point to a potential issue with the system? I did notice some sand in the bottom of the pump basket, could this be caused if sand got in the impeller and wore it down a little? Just looking for things to help potentially avoid a major problem down the road.

Before what?

What has changed, other than your filter pressure?
two weeks ago the pressure had no issues then we had a wind storm and a lot of dirt and debris flew in the pool and ever since then I have noticed this pressure issue

nothing has changed as far as plumbing or vacuum

Just looking for potential causes, broken pipe underground, partially clogged pipes, worn impeller, etc...
