This is our first year with a pool. The water stays pretty clear for the most part but I'm having issues getting the cya to show up on my test strips. No matter how much I add, it always reads 0. The hardness is always really high also. Now there is stuff on the bottom that looks like dirt but clouds away when pushed with a vacuum. It keeps coming back no matter how many times I sweep. I don't know if it's algae, sand from the pump or pollen. I tried to upload a picture but it keeps saying it's too large. The chlorine seems to go pretty fast. I bought the pucks but later got liquid because the pucks never seem to dissolve. Ph is usually at 8.4 alkalinity at 120, cya always 0, hardness between 500 and 1000, total chlorine 2 and free chlorine between 1 and 2. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Welcome to the forum!
You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF-100/Pro or Taylor K2006C. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool
