Maybe it's for a vacuum? Do you have a port somewhere for a vacuum hose to plug in? You could maybe trace it by blowing air from a shop vac into the suction lines at the pump with the skimmer and drain valves closed. Then listen for the noise of escaping air or bubbles in the pool.
Dave, That was exactly it. I didn't realize it because there was a "discharge port" on the line, but it certainly is a vac line. I'll be hopeful that my leak is in that line alone!
