I'm also working off a complete water change last year., and had spent 5 years prior getting my metal concentration diluted with soft water.

On one hand, the Alum treatment might have been of immediate benefit to me in the early days. But had that been my main treatment strategy, my sulphates by now would have been problematic for swg, I suspect. So still Sophie's choices ;)

Eg. I don't think this method is sustainable for untreated well water. But I have no way of knowing since I'm not going back to raw well water for the sake of science ;)
 
Just add a whole bunch of barium chloride to the pool. Barium chloride reacts with sulfates to form insoluble barium sulfate precipitates.

You’ll be sulfate free in no time ;)
