So my pH has been running 8-8.2 and I added muriatic acid to bring it down to 7.4 (per pool math). My TA has been steady at 90. An hour after adding acid, my pH is 7.6 but my TA is up to 110????
How is that possible?

It is not. Testing variances, etc. Only way TA rises is by adding a chemical that adds it or fill water that is higher in TA than the pool water.

Today results
pH 7
FC 8.5
CC 0.5
CYA 60
TA 100
CH 80

I added more muriatic acid and pH dropped, but didn't do anything to TA (most TA testing was 90 to 100, with one test at 110). I would expect to see TA drop but it didn't. Haven't added water, and ran last test twice

I don't know how much acid you've been adding, but a quart of 31% acid in 17000 gallons if water will lower TA by 7.4. Less than a drop. If you added less, you'll see an even smaller drop. Does the pH drop the right amount? If so, why worry? TA is not a critical parameter. It doesn't cause algae or cloudiness.

My pH creeps up above 8 sometimes, but even with return pointing almost down, I get ripples on surface and likely aeration. 2 days ago I put 5 cups, and then 5 cups yesterday of 31%. Just thought that would take TA down a bit since pool math always says TA is out of range. But it has dropped pH and not touched TA.
