pH always rises back quickly

I can’t seem to be able to keep my pH from climbing up after getting it to a good spot. I catch it before it gets past 8, but then it goes back up within a week or two after I adjust it. Is that normal?

I haven’t needed to adjust anything else so it wouldn’t be related to that. I stopped running my cascade water features for this reason but the pace of increase hasn’t gone down.

I read the pH further reading page, but I’m still not sure if I should just see if the pool settles around 8, which is close to what I’ve seen, and be ok with that. Either way, it seems to rise faster than that article may imply.

Last results:
FC 6
pH 8
TA 85
TH 290
CYA 70

Thanks for your help!

This happened to me last year (second year of pool). I would be dumping acid in every 10 days.

This year, for some reason, I've added acid once. I've been stuck at 7.6 for weeks now. Not that I'm complaining. Same TA as you.

It's worth measuring the TA of your fill water too. Mine is 110, which isn't too bad compared to others, but it still slowly pushes my TA up over time. So I need to add acid at least a few times a month to keep pH under 8 in the short term, and TA under control in the longer term.

One thing to look at (other than TA) is aeration, have any fountains or anything in the pool that are running with the pumps daily? That will make your PH climb and require acid to keep in balance. Will also have an effect on TA (lower it) as you work that cycle (climb with aeration, lower with acid).

I've been very conservative with our water feature use for this reason.
