Hi all, I'm afraid I broke my pump yesterday. I was attempting to wire it for external control with some relays. The external control didn't work for some reason, then I decided to just go back to local control, and the pump will no longer start. The keypad turns on, but when I try to start the pump it starts to spin, but then stops. Meanwhile the keypad is cycling from lit to blank. It goes through this several times, and will eventually show error 0017 on the display. I attempted a reset by holding 1 and the up and down arrows. No change.

I'm guessing I need to replace the drive kit, but I'm reaching out to see if there's something else I should try to bring it back to life first.

Yeah, tried the hard power cycle. Left power off overnight and tried again today. Same symptoms.

I think I found what I did that caused the issue. I was wiring the pump for external control. My pump is pre 2020, but I got the wire for the post-2020 pump and didn't realize there's a difference.

I put 24 VDC to the green wire, which I'm guessing fried something.

Yeah, Pentair really made that product switch very confusing.

You should not have been putting 24V DC on any of the wires.

Which cable do you have? Black or almond?

I have the black cable.

I was trying to control with an external power supply. The pump manual says you can control with 5-30 V.

Doesn't help the fact that I put power to the wrong pin though.

So, I put power to the RS 485 wire, but there's no serial in the old pump. Any clue what those two extra pins are for in the older pump version?

I got my new drive kit today. Pump is working again and I wired up the controls correctly for the newer wire.

Not sure whether I needed to replace both the vfd and the keypad, but we're back in business.
