I have a Pentair SD80 sand filter that was installed in 2013 (at least per the pool store, we bought in 2015). A small pinhole leak started right at the end of the season last year and I forgot about it over the winter. This spring I patched with epoxy to buy time to research, but as I've since read on the forum it's a lost cause. Turns out that is correct, the patches I've tried have held for a bit but all failed. The pressure has been running 20-25psi with two-year old sand. And the pump has been noisier this year. I haven't deep cleaned the sand although now wishing I had, thinking maybe the higher pressure has lead the filter to fail sooner than it should have and is contributing to pump noise.
Online I couldn't seem to find just the SD80 tank with a short lead time and pricing wise it seemed like replacing the whole thing including the multivalve was probably the best option. Then the latest patch failed and the leaks got worse so I was going to have the pool store do the install to save time. When I talked to them on the phone about stock options they mentioned a Pentair Tagelus TA100 and then emailed about a TA60....but I realized the quote is actually for a Pentair Triton II TR60 ($899 + $260 for the valve). Apparently a TA100 was what was installed when the pool was built. The store also said the SD80 was not really an outdoor filter? It sits outside (upper midwest) on a concrete slab.
I'll ask about the Triton vs the Tagelus to confirm it's not a type but is there any notable difference between the two? For a 20k gallon IG is the 60 large enough? Or should I hold out and wait for shipping on a larger model?
