I have an inground, 12,000 gal, chlorine plaster, pentair intelliflo vsp, waterway plastics oasis controller. All of it is 13 months old. A week ago, the pentair pump wiring area just below the display overheated and melted. I smelled burning plastic for 4 days before it shut off. I didn't get any alarms or warnings. I contacted Pentair since the pump is still under warranty and 6 calendar days later they sent a tech to repair it. He fixed the pump before I could get home to see what was wrong. He powered up the pump and it works great but the Oasis Controller wasn't controlling the pump. The tech, had never heard of Waterway Plastics and he refused to help contact tech support and trouble shoot how to get the controller working again. I felt like I was working with a government employee. He would only help with what he was told to do. Nothing else, even though I offered to pay him beyond what Pentair was paying him. Anyways, I tried all the things I've done before and in the Pentair and Oasis manuals. I disabled all Pentair schedules and priming. Disconnected the RS-485 cable and turned off the power to the pump and oasis controller for 5 minutes. I plugged in the RS-485 cable to the pump. Powered on the controller. Waited one minute until the display showed the date and time. Then turned on the power to the pump. It didn't work. I turned off the power to both again and reversed the power on order, pump first then controller. Still didn't work. I checked all the wiring in the controller and it matches the picture I took of the same wires 13 months ago when it was installed. Yes, I have a little OCD. I've contacted my Dallas area Waterway Plastics sales rep who I've talked to 3 months ago about another issue that he fixed but I have not received a response from him in over a week. He is either on a really good vacation, quit his job for a better one, or doesn't want to help me now that his controller is one month past the warranty period. So, I'm kind of stuck. You guys helped me last time. Does anybody have an idea? Should I test the voltage on the relays?

I think I have it set for ext ctrl. I have each program in ext control as Pump Off. Is that incorrect? Should it be Enabled instead?
Also, the screen on my pump is not what it used to look like when it was controlled by the controller. I should show Pump Address 1, Display Not Active as shown in the attached pic.IMG_0465.JPEG

Yes, I am aware that message on the pump screen means it is connected to the controller. My question was what are the settings I need to have in the Ext Ctrl section? Should it be Enabled or Pump Off?

I changed it from pump off to enabled. I then cut the power for 1 hour and the controller started communicating with the pump again. I love technology but sometimes it's a real pain. Thank you 1poolman1 for your advice. I'm going to hop in the pool with an ice cold beer now!

Glad it worked for you. You'll know what to do the next time, and there will very likely be a next time.
