I have been doing some digging on here about the RPM/GPM for this pump. The PB has put it at the following settings. From what I have read we want to run at the lowest speed possible to be able to still skim, run SWG, etc. but I'm trying to follow up behind them and see if this is where we really need to be. Our SWG is not on yet as we are still in our 30 days with a new pool. I've seen some RPM numbers in some posts on here that are much lower than what we are currently doing here. Just looking for some input. My signature is updated and correct. This pic is just for the pump, we also have a water feature. Both the pump and water feature are set for 60 GPM.

Mark,

Once you get your SWCG installed, you can then lower the speed until the cell reports low flow, and then slowly increase the speed until the flow light turns green. Then add about 100 RPM just to make sure. That will be the slowest speed you ever want to run. Most likely it will also be fast enough to skim..

I run at about 1200 RPM, but I don't have a heater.. If I did, I'd most likely have to run at about 1500 RPM. That said, I have a 10 year old IntelliFlo. Today's pumps are much more energy efficient, and I suspect with the new IntelliFlo3, that you will be able to run at 1200 or even lower. But, all pools have different plumbing, so it is something that you will have to experiment with.

I am not a fan of running in the GPM mode, but whatever work for you, works for me.

Thanks,

Jim R.

GPM mode is what the pool builder put it in. I'm new to all this, so if there us a better way, I'm all for it. So is the setup I currently have good for now?

Mark,

I see no real reason to change for now..

The basic idea of a VS pump is to run as slow as you can to save money on the electrical bill.. Your current speed of 2233 should not cost too much to run until you get the SWCG installed.. I run 24/7 at 1200 RPM and this costs me less than $20 bucks a month.

If you want, you can reduce the GPM from the current 60 to 50 or even 40, if you wish.. You don't want to step on the pool builder's toes, until he is all done and the pool is yours.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Our setup requires 12GPM flow to keep the salt generating 24/7. Sadly, that’s right at the cusp of 1500 rpm in our case.

So, I set it to 1600RPM (our equipment pad is far from our pool) and we get 14-16 GPM (depending on how clogged the hairnet in the skimmer gets). This is plenty enough to keep our IC40 at 40% and we remain in the 7-8ppm Free CL every day. Uses 190-200 watts. Don’t notice it on our electric bill (the AC masks any other electricity use!).
