I had a few questions about my pools pump. We have started traveling way more than I would like to and I dont see this slowing down much over the next few years. This means more time away from the pool while it runs its automatic schedule which causes a little concern if something were to happen while we are gone.
First of all do these pumps have any built in overheating protection? I do have intelliconnect and it has alerted me of power outages and such but not sure if the pump ran dry and over heated if it would shut it down? I run it about 18 hrs a day. Im going on year 3 of a new pool build, what is the life expectancy of this type of pump since a replacement is around 2k it would be nice to know. Which brings me to another question, I take care of my own pool, is there any maintenance I can do to prolong the life of the equipment?
As always I appreciate sharing your knowledge.

Ski,

I have three IntelliFlo pumps that have been run 24/7 since I installed them. One is about 11 years old, one is over 9 years old and the one at my house is about 8 years old. They all work today, just like the did when they were new.

I think you are worried over nothing. If the power goes off and then comes back on, your IntelliConnect should tell the pump to restart.. The pump is not going to restart all on its own.

Why do you run the pump 18 hours a day? I can understand running a few hours a day or 24 hours a day, but 18 sounds odd to me. It does not hurt anything, I am just curious..

Thanks,

Jim R.

i cannot speak for the OP but the reason I run my Intelliflo pump 19 hours a day instead of 24, is because I am on TOU and I have Peak electricity pricing from 4pm to 9pm so my pump is off during those hours.

Ensure your water chemistry is balanced. I see you have a SWCG so that part is great. Watch your pH, CH and the CSI of your pool water.

My biggest concern with extended travels is the skimmer baskets getting clogged, especially at this time of year with all the pollen. If you have a screen enclosure you may not have that concern.

Good question, my pump sits rather close to my neighbor's bedroom window and while it is very quiet they have politely mentioned they have heard it at night. I try to keep it down during over night hours

I have a screen enclosure that keeps the skimmer empty
