pentair ic40 SWG salt level indicator acting up

marc,

This is one of the reasons that you cell keeps turning on and off.

The slowest speed you ever want to run should be fast enough to keep the cell making chlorine,

Do you have a heater or an in floor cleaning system?

Thanks,

Jim R.

so im putting more pieces together. i went out this morning around 10 and my SWG was recyling, and had the blinking lights, i realized that egg timer was set at 10 so that would have been 12 hours later, is it possible that egg timer is connected to when the SWG turns off and back on? if so, perhaps i cooridinate my egg timer to make the SWG recycle later in the day when it typically shows a green dot for salt level and therefore makes salt. This morning when it cycled back on it showed low salt, but my salt is 3600ppm right now.

im almost more confused than i was previously.

Marc,

As far as I can tell, your timer is not doing anything. For it to work, there has to be 'dogs' that screw onto the yellow plate. These dogs are what turn the output of the timer on and off.

Right now you only have control by using the manual handle with the red cap.

What does this timer control???

Thanks,

Jim R.

thats a great question. I am unsure what this timer controls, perhaps nothing? typically they have two other knobs on them that say start and end, but i dont have that so imunsure what its connected to.

if i flip the switch from manually to off, nothing happens , so its notnconnected to my pool pump which i didnt think it would be since my pump has its own timer on it.

what i dont understand is the resetting of the salt cell. it seems to reset but not sure the rymm or reason behind the timing at which it resets or where its even getting the "time" from, maybe from the filter?

another piece of info. just now, the salt was reading low, but i know its in a good range from the test i did. i unplugged the salt cell, plugged back in, and within two minutes it read Green for good salt.

How do i figure out when the SWG recycles on and off cause it seems that if i could time my pump to be on for when this happens in the afternoon, that is when i get a good salt reading and i could produce chlorine.

That is an issue. The SWCG should be completely powered off when the pump is not running. You need to get the 'dogs' that Jim mentioned above and set up the timer to control when the SWCG is powered on that is within the time the pump is set to run.

confirming one thing, are u saying when i hit the on/off swtich on the pump does the SWG go off, or are u asking if i hit the breaker, or the off lever on the timer off, does the swg power off?

sorry just wanted to confirm

So you need to get the 'dogs' for the timer and use them to only power on the SWCG when the pump is scheduled to run.

so the flow light itself doesnt light up when pump is off, but the lights showing salt level, etc. are always powered on, 24 hours a day.

You have the parts you need, looking at your picture in post #16 at the bottom of your electrical box in the bags. Those brackets need to be installed on the yellow dial of your Intermatic timer to switch the power on and off assuming it is wired to your SWCG.

that makes me feel a bit silly to not have grabbed those. i thought it was a bag of wire nuts at a quick glance when i first saw them and never thought about it again - part of me wants the people who didnt do this to come fix but in the interest of time i throw them on and see what happens - good catch !
