Pentair Filter Housing loses water with Lid off

I've noticed sometimes when I pull the filter housing lid off, to change the filter, the water in the canister / housing drops quickly and other times it doesn't. Today it drained quickly. When I turned the pump back on, I did get a quick prime back into the pump basket. Any idea as to why sometimes the housing holds water and other times it drains quickly when I remove the lid? The filter pressure seems ok at 10 to 12 psi.

Which filter do you have? Ten - twelve psi with what pump and speed? Is it draining back through the pump or into the pool through the return line? Either way it really isn't an issue. You are trying to make sense about a pool. About the time you think you have it figured out, something will change.

It’s a Pentair CCRP100 filter with a Jandy two speed pump with a high speed at 2750. What I did forget to mention, If I run the hose in the housing, the water will not rise up high enough to reach the inlet to the pump. I assume the water just keeps draining out of the supply to the pool??? Whats weird, I use to fill up the housing to a point it would begin to fill up the pump basket.

My ground level pump (on ground level pool) will drain down to maybe 1" of water when I remove the lid. My leaf catcher will do the same though down to 2" of water. The water drops to the bottom of the suction side of each basket. It's perfectly normal. Then mine always pull a quick prime and runs as normal.
