Pentair Easy Touch Lost Some Functionality

57,

Ok, once again I am full of bull feathers. I reread the manual and it says that the EasyTouch can only use address #1. I originally misread that to say that the old IntelliFlo could only use address #1, which is not correct. When the old manual was written the EasyTouch could only control one pump at address #1, that is not true of newer EasyTouch systems which can control two IntelliFlo pumps.

edit.. looking at your last post, it appears that you are stuck with using the aux relay to control the old IntelliFlo.

Sorry for any confusion.

It does not make sense that your old pump will not work like it used to. Just to be clear... You need to have the old pump running and running at the special speed that you saved.. Then while running at that speed, shut the pump off by pushing the Spa Jets (aux 1) button on the EasyTouch.. Do not shut the pump off at the pump.

57,

Did you do the above set up??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank Jim. Yes I did. I first reset the pump as you suggested and then set the special speed as button 1 on the pump. Still no luck. Something to note, however, when I shut off the pump by pressing the Jets button on the Easy Touch control panel the pump shuts off OK but the red alarm light and the green On light flash back and forth for a few seconds then they both turn off. This seems to indicate a fault of some kind but not sure what.

57,

Normally, the IntelliFlo would get constant AC power. I suspect that the red alarm and Green on light are simple reacting to the sudden loss of AC power. I doubt it is any kind of real failure.

I have no idea why the pump will not come back on when AC power is reapplied. Either the pump is now bad or most likely, your special speed is not being saved.

As a test, I'd reset to factory defaults and then run at the default for speed 1.. 750 RPM.. I would get a feel for what 750 sounds like and then ramp it up to an RPM that is noticeably different in sound. I would then save that speed to the speed 1 button. I'd give it a minute or so to make sure everything is updated. Then I would shut the pump off using the stop button on the pump. Wait a minute or so and turn the pump on at the pump. Confirm that speed # 1 is still running faster than the default of 750. This would prove that the new special speed was in the pump's memory. I would then turn the pump off using the Aux 1 button. Wait again for a minute and turn the Aux 1 button on. If the pump does not start on its own, I'd then manually start the pump and see of the #1 speed is still working or if the #1 speed has gone back to the default.

Thanks,

Jim R.

57,

Well, you proved that it has stored the new pump speed, which is good.

But, sorry to say, I have no idea why the pump will not run when you turn on the AC power. It obviously did before, but something changed and now it won't.

I am going to take another read through of the old manual and see if I missed something.

Thanks,

Jim R.

UPDATE: I just changed out the OMRON relay for the Aux1 circuit and the Spa Jets pump now works!!!! I can turn it on and off at the panel and the wireless remote. Persistence does pay off!!
Jim, thank you for your help with this. Really very much appreciated.

57,

On page 20 the manual says... "However, the pump can be operated in “stand-alone” mode, starting and stopping when power is applied or removed. When the drive powers up it will return to the mode and run status that it was in when power was removed."

So, it should work..

As a last resort, I would call Pentair and see if anyone has any ideas on why your pump is now not responding like it should.

Edit.. It Works!!! :goodjob:

On the surface it does not make sense as the Aux relays just turn on the AC power on and off.. The same "bad" relay turned the pump on when using the buttons on the pump.. Odd indeed., but just glad you were able to get it to work.. I would have never figured it out, as I would never have replaced the relay.

Thanks,

Jim R.
