North east SC coast
I have a 14000 gal pool and spa with two Pentair whisperflow pumps, heater, and a Pentair easy touch control panel. Last week here on the SC coast, we had some extremely cold weather. The pumps come on automatically when the temperature drops. The problem is, around 2 AM we had a two hour power failure. During that time, I think the pumps froze. The next morning, when I realized the problem, I noticed the digital display on the control panel wasn't on. Everything is thawed, I've checked the breakers, but the screen is blank and nothing turns on. Does anyone have an idea what I'm missing? Thanks to all.

Have you checked you have 240V at L1/L2 at the pump?

Check for voltage at the pump CB.

A VS pump should not be going through a relay in the EasyTouch.

Sounds like you have a CB problem and not a pump or ET problem.

Show us pictures of how your pump is connected to the CB and ET.

Thanks, ajw22. My pumps aren't VS. I tried to check some voltages, but it started raining again. I do have 240V inside the panel. Tomorrow, I plan on checking the pump breakers. Where does the display panel pick up its power? As I said, the display is dark.

I thought you were saying the pump display is dark. That implied it was a VS pump.

If your EasyTouch display is off then your problem is the power and CB to the ET and has nothing to do with your pump.

Look at the circuit breaker that powers your EasyTouch.

Pictures?

Look at the b dreamer that powers Yiou r EasyTouch.

Sorry. I should have made myself clear. It's the display on the control panel that's off. I'm not sure about the acronyms you're referring to. What is CB and ET? What is the b dreamer you mentioned?

Guy,

Please tell me how you checked your 240 volts power??

Did you test between L1 and L2 (two hots) or did you test L1 to ground and the L2 to ground?? Testing to ground can give you a false reading when testing for 240 volts..

Sometime idiot installers get their System transformer power from the GFCI outlet on the side of the EasyTouch.. See if the outlet works and if not make sure you reset it.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks, Jim, for the question. I measured across L1 and L2 with a Fluke 77 multimeter. I checked the inside breaker, the sub-panel outside, and into the Pentair panel before the rains came. Life is getting in the way today, so it may be tomorrow before I get back on it.

I got back on the Pentair panel issue this morning. I pulled the cover off and tilted out the control panel, looking for the low-voltage power source. I focused on the four small relays located on the top right side. For some reason, I decided to recheck the pool and spa breakers first. I disconnected them, tripped them out, checked continuity, and reset them. Frankly, it didn't make sense for me to do this because I felt there was no way the pool pump or spa pump breaker would affect the power to the panel, but I did it anyway. I reinstalled them, flipped the breaker in the sub-panel feeding the Pentair panel and powered it up. The display lit. Both pumps started. WTH? I can only figure that the pump or spa breaker has an intermittent problem. I'm going to replace both. Is this thing wired wrong? Why would a bad pool or spa breaker shut down the control panel? Now, I'm questioning the wiring.

Guy,

Your System transformer is wired to the Line side of the Pump Filter relay.. If the pump's breaker pops, the system will shut off.

A stupid way to wire it, in my opinion.

On second thought, since all your breaker slots are used, not sure what else would make sense..

Thanks,

Jim R.

The blower breaker should be GFCI.

You can remove the 240 (double pole) heater breaker and change the heater and system to 120 volts and put a 15 amp single pole 120 volt GFCI breaker for each.

The Mastertemp heater has a voltage selector plug to change to 120 volts.

The system can be changed to take 120 volts.

Note: Do not do anything unless you are 100% sure that you know how to do it safely and correctly.
