Pentair easy touch 8- Display won’t turn on, no power?

Hi all,

I’m getting solar panels installed and the electric company had to come to my house to upgrade my main panel. When they did this they had to shutdown the power and when they were done, I realized (a few days later) that my pool wasn’t running at it’s scheduled time. I checked the breakers to the house and pool automation (flipped them on and off) but everything looked ok. I have a gfi outlet connected to the side of the automation box and can confirm that has power. I saw some previous threads regarding different issues around this and tried troubleshooting but unsure if I’m testing the right things to determine if the control unit is getting power (I tried testing j1 by inserting the prongs into the backside of the connector but it doesn’t show having power).

Are there other things I can test to determine what might be the issue? Thanks in advance and pics below of my panel in-case that helps.

-Ray

RC7,

Test BETWEEN the two large wires coming into the load center at the bottom. (L1 and L2) make sure that you have 240 volts between the two wires. Do not test to ground as this can give you a false reading.

If you get 240 there, then test between the line pins on bottom right relay (Aux 7) Test betwen the two orange wires and confirm that you have 240 there.

Please let us know what you find.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim, I tested L1 to neutral, and L2 to neutral and got 123.9 and 123.3 respectively.

For aux 7 I only saw red wires so I tested aux 8 which had the orange wires. Was this what you wanted me to test?

There is no Aux 8. You have a pump/filter relay (Upper left) and then Aux 1 through Aux 7

I need you to test between L1 and L2 so I can be sure that you have 240 volts. If you are missing a phase, you can still read 120 from L1 and L2 to ground or neutral.

What did you get between the two orange wires on the relay on the bottom right (Aux 7) as in your pic???

Put your meter on the 600 volt AC scale.

Looking at your meter, it appears to me you have lost either L1 or L2.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim- L1 to L2 shows 0, same thing on aux 7 between the two orange wires

RC7,

It could be you have lost one of your hot wires that make up the 240 volts for the whole house, but if that was true, then about have of your house would have no 120-volt power.

I suspect that the main breaker that feeds your EasyTouch just needs to be reset or worst case it is bad.

Either way, the first thing I'd look at is the breaker that feeds all the power to your EasyTouch.

The main thing you should take away from this thread, is that when you check for 240 volts, you always test between L1 and L2 and never L1 and L2 to ground or Neutral.

Thanks,

Jim R.

learn something new every day! Thank you, Jim. I haven’t noticed any issues with other parts of the house not having power but I’ll see what the electricians find out tomorrow.

Thank you for all your help and knowledge sharing.
