Owner Builder SLC - Slow and steady progress

More slow progress on one of the retaining walls, plus a sneak peak at the pavers ;) Can’t actually start on that until they inspect the bond wire Monday.

Coping and walls are the same graphite color. Wall caps and deck are a lighter color.

Got the hot tub pad and equipment pad poured today. I'm counting myself pretty lucky, since basically everyone I've been talking to is saying that there's a pretty significant concrete shortage, and it's very hard to come by right now. I only needed about 3 yards, so maybe that helped vs larger concrete jobs that have 30-40 yards. Also pretty happy that gunite is done - I'm sure that's getting tough too!

After my false start over the weekend, I'm starting on the deck for real this time  I really like the colors, but dang those pavers are heavy! Plan to have a good chunk of the deck done by the weekend, plus I need to build a small retaining wall for the hot tub vault before that gets delivered on Friday. That should probably take most of my free time the rest of the week.

Progress :) I'm getting faster as I go, but I probably have only done ~300 sq/ft out of around 2000 total. It's definitely going to take me a while. Plus since the pavers are pretty heavy, it's hard for my wife/kids to help with that part, so I'm stuck doing that part. But they're helping in other areas.

Are those Melville wall blocks? I was planning to do a raised bond-beam wall with those myself but in the linen color. Any issues with them? Were they easy to work with? I'm just in Lehi. Do you have a good place to buy them?

@sclarkenator, yes those are melville walls. I really like them and they were pretty easy to work with. Basically just stack them on top of each other, and they're very consistent size. I've got the graphite walls, with graphite coping, then scandia grey pavers and wall caps.

We got them at Beehive brick and stone in sandy. I didn't even shop around, but there's only a handful of places that carry belgard pavers. We ordered back in Jan, not sure what lead time is like now, but if you want them any time soon I'd call sooner rather than later.

Tile is done and I literally didn't have a single tile left to spare! I don't know where I mis-calculated, or if there was more waste than I thought, but they ended up using a few of the bullnose pieces that went along the front of the lowered bond beam on the back side too. Going to get another box ordered just in case I need some in the future.

Hot tub is getting delivered some time this morning, then I'll keep working on the pavers over the weekend, hoping to have most of that done. My wife still thinks it's a mess out there, but I'm starting to feel really good about it! I'm loving the way it's finally coming together.

Hot tub got delivered this morning. They basically pulled in on a giant sled, ended up getting some scratches on it  Will have to call down later about that. They're not huge, but it's more than most of my cars! Will be working on the pavers and wall in front of the hot tub this weekend.

(don't mind all the Crud in the back ground - it's a work in progress!)

Now it has “character” & hopefully a discount to boot!

The did end up throwing in the cover lifter for us, and are coming to replace one of the trim pieces and 'buff' out the other scratches, which I'm skeptical will work, but we'll see. I am happy with the hot tub itself though, got it filled and have been in it a few times.

I'm counting down days to plaster - only 5 to go! Getting my microbrites installed today and I have a question on the o-ring. The instructions aren't very clear where that goes. There's a collar that screws in to the 1-1/2" fitting that clicks into place on the light. I think the o-ring goes in between that and the light. Can anyone confirm?

Here's a close up of it without the o-ring installed:

Here's where I think it goes. I can't get the collar to click back on, but it does seem to screw in tight to the fitting.

Other progress - Hot tub in place and fille, and the wall around the hot tub is done (except for the caps). As you can see, we had a rainy/muddy weekend!

One plumbing question too as I get ready to do that tomorrow. The manuals for the MasterTemp and IC60 both mention max flow rates (120 GPM and 80 GPM) respectively. My Quad DE filter can output up to 160 GPM. Is that going to be an issue? Do I need to account for that and put in bypass loops?

How will you know what your flow rate is to adjust the bypass valves?

Looks like you have a standalone spa so there is no reason to run your pump at a flow rate for 50-60 GPM at most.

You will have little need for a bypass on your SWG.

There are other benefits to having a heater bypass.
