Opinions requested concerning old piping replacement

Hi Everyone!

After hiring a leak detection service, we decided to use this quarantine time to replace some of the old black poly piping and remodel our 50yr old fiberglass pool (bid was $60K to do it all so we are doing it ourselves). Note we purchased the home about a year and a half ago so we are not very experienced but I do try to research as much as possible.

After we cleared some of the concrete, old rotten wood deck, and dug - we found the piping shape to be a bit odd - see pictures for reference.

We are thinking replacing the piping with PVC to match the equipment. Many of the pictures I found had elbows and not the strange curves shown in the pictures. I’ve also read filling with gravel helps prevent leaks.

Just would like everyone’s thoughts on if we are on the right track or better recommendations of replacing the pipes. Very much appreciated!!

Regards,

You cannot easily bend and curve rigid PVC. You need to plan new piping in straight lines and 90 degree or 45 degree corners and Ts. Study the type of shapes available. Then you need to create straight trenches for the new pipes.

Put gravel in the pipe trench to prevent settling that can crack pipes.

@jimmythegreek thoughts?
