Opening solo- please help

okay, I am close to ready. I put the cartridges in and reassembled the filter. I keep the air release valve open, right? Do I ever close it?

pool school tells me: 'Open the air release valve on the filter if it has one and leave it open until a steady stream of water flows out of the air release valve. Close the air release valve and turn the pump on to push any remaining air out of the plumbing.' There was no stream of water when I opened it but I did hear the air being released. Now I close it?

The pump pushes the air out after it primes. When water shoots out instead of air, you're done. It may take a minute or 3 to push all the air out of the tiny hole. It seems like an hour but it isn't.

So keep it open when the pool pump is on, then turn pump off and close it. Back on?

Newdude, I just tried to turn the power in and there is no power going to the equipment. The is power to the pool light and pad light so I know it’s coming from the house. Just not going to pump/filter/ etc… I turned all breaks off and on, inside the house and outside

I found the issue, the manual meter was off. I turned it on, water shot out of the release valve, and much thicker stream that I thought. Pump primed and now is working!!! I have water through the returns. Now I'll start draining the pool and get the robot moving. Thank you all for your help!!!!

Go back and open the air valve at some point today. Sometimes the first prime/purge doesn't get it all.

Also, once it's run for a bit, crank it up to full RPM and look for drips at all the unions and equipment.

So Miss B.lu. Now that your thread will be inspiration for folks who are on the fence about saving a good chunk of coin by opening themselves, we need your honest recap, when you have a minute. Next year you will waltz through it like a boss, but before today, you weren't sure you could do it.

What was easy, what was hard ? Was anything rocket science-y ? (Sweet job figuring out the timer/power BTW)

Thanks in advance. :)

Next year, I will definitely open the pool myself with the exception of having my husband help with the cover. On my own, the cover only took 30 minutes (not including cleaning it off and folding it, which I still have to do). But! Those 30 minutes were stressful and I probably came close to falling into the pool at the end when the mesh cover was heavily laden with water. As you all said, the rest of it was easy with the support from you all. The search feature and pool school section on tfp were great resources. Other things might come up in the future, but I at least know the basics now. I’m pretty proud of myself and I my daughters were really happy to help too

Kids are always real happy to assist opening. Closing, notsomuch. :ROFLMAO:

You should be. We sure are.

Closing is exactly the opposite. You may want to pay one last time and really study how they blow out the lines. After you have a good grip on how to do your system, you will be saving several hundred there too.

I can't believe I missed this thread. Amazing job @B.lu ! You did it! I agree the pool cover. Is. The. Worst. I had my husband help but it was still exhausting. I'm so proud of you! ❤️

Today is the first real summery day and I’m pretty happy with the water (besides being cold). I have a heater but the propane guy never brought the tank in the fall. I was going to remind him in the spring but I’m in no rush now given the likely high cost of fuel
