So today I took the cover off my in-ground pool only to discover about half to two-thirds of the water is missing.

The new water level doesn't align with any jets, skimmer or pool light cut-outs so I'm wondering if there is a hole in the liner somewhere. I'm just surprised that around 10k gallons of water drained out but the surrounding ground never shower excess pooling or other signs of draining.

I had the liner replaced about nine months ago so I contacted them first to get their opinion and hopefully figure out what's going on.

Besides a leak is there any other way the water could get out? I have a main drain but that was blown out and the three-way valve was closed, only other thing I could think of is if somehow the waste line from the drain has a crack at a point where the pipe turns up on the way back to the pump but that seems like a stretch.

The liner is still attached but there are wrinkles in the shallow end since the water level is so low, need to get those sorted before I start refilling.

Any other suggestions are more than welcome, this is the first time I'm dealing with a problem like this.

That's what I figured. I didn't see any obvious holes in the shallow end when walking around and it was too cold to jump in the deep end and do a thorough inspection.

I don't see any large tears or rips so if there is a hole it has to be relatively small.

Mark the water level with some tape.

Fill the pool up an inch or two from the mark.

See if the water level drops back down to the tape.
