After canceling my pool service last year, I followed trouble free pools how to. I closed this 100,000 gall pool last season. I closed it early - September. When opening the pool today it was spotless!!! I came to the conclusion my pool service never closed the pool with any chemicals. They would just shock the heck out of the pool in spring.

Probably.

The spring after I converted from Baquacil and to the TFPC method, my pool was a pretty shade of green that I would want for my lawn, but not my water. Year 2 opening was just like yours. We moved last fall, and opened to a scene similar to 2016, only we had ammonia too. Next spring I expect much better.

I'm not sure which impresses me more .... the clear water right at opening or the fact it's 100K gallons. Ooooo weeeee that's a big pool. CANNONBAL! Looks great. :goodjob:
Thanks. I was nervous taking over this pool due to the size. I always had a pool 30,000 size. This pool holds 118,000. 35x60 with a 9 ft deep end. I did the math. I get 96,000. My son gets 105,000 and the pool service last year said 118,000. I go with 100,000 with chemical.

We have one Pentair heater. It does heat the water if water temp is 78. It will get it to 86 if it’s 85 and sunny out. Takes 4 days at about $$$.$$ not REALY sure how much or I really don’t want to know but when the electricity bill comes in and it’s $650 to $850 for the month my wife starts to scream. Lol. It’s for the grandkids I say. I call Pentair and they did the numbers to heat this pool and they said I need 4 heater to do the heat in this pool. So - I look at it like this - 3 more heaters at $2900.00 x 3 = $9k. With electricity bill that should be $400 a month. The numbers $600 a season in elect. That’s 10 years I can use this heater. Lol

The chlorine needed to SLAM that baby must be incredible. Who was it that had that 55 gallon drum? LOL!
. I think I use 12-1 lb shock and 6 Alg -50. I left two floating with 6 tabs in each and 2 submarine with 4 tabs in each then put cover on. I was told not to do that due to the fumes??? It didn’t blow up. I use that submarine fill with chlorine tabs all summer. I never get any green on the pool walls.

What I did when putting in the 6 alg. -50. I pulled out the filters in the Pentair system and ran the pool 24 hours without the filters. If you look at your filter when you put that 50 in. The filter catches it and it’s all blue. You want that stuff in your pool not in your filter. For the summer time - yes - it’s good for the filter to have it. That was something I did. Right or wrong it seem to work.

In April we had so much rain. I go out side and see the grass raising up. That week I noticed our water pressure was low also. Hmmm. The next day it stop raining but I now see water coming out of the ground. Ended up we had a water main break about 5 ft from the house. Long Island water company calls me that same day and says. You must have a water main break because you use 6 cubes of water. $650 in one month. My back still hurts from digging. Main was 6 ft deep. I had to dig 6 ft wide so I can work 6 ft deep. Found a splice. Plastic 1 inch splice to 3/4 copper. Just got loose. I replaced it. $90 bucks.
