When the young son ran out of patience, I put the 10 yro grandson and he was doing fine until Sherri came out and had a fit! By that time, the other son showed up to help and I got him on it! :whip:

Re: One fool's method for doing a round AGP deep end...

Looks like you are making great progress supertune! :goodjob: The deep end is really worth the extra work, my oldest tells me that all the time when he is swimming.

Since I didn't always have a transit holder, I made my own. I took a 1 foot section of 2X12 and drilled a 1 inch hole in it that tightly fit a 1 inch dia, 7 ft tall pvc pipe, and held it at 90 degrees to the 2X12 (2X12 large sides parallel to ground). I then made marks on it every inch that I labeled so I could see them through the transit(I could have taped a light yard stick to it instead). Bingo, I now had a transit holder that wasn't going to walk off.

Re: One fool's method for doing a round AGP deep end...

How is it going supertune. I will break ground on Friday with the sod cutter and will post some pictures. I am feeling very confident at the moment, but we will see what happens when the real work starts. I will definitely update with pictures. Does anyone have any good pictures of how they installed there plumbing? I am going to hard plumb it from the start and think I have a good handle on the process, but pictures and more advice never hurt. I will do some more looking. I have seen some good write ups on this site, but cant seem to find them now that I need them. Of course.

Day One (kind of, been planning for months) Sod Cutting. A tough job and I am not as young as I used to be, but a must have tool to do this kind of work.

A lot more dirt comes out of that hole then you plan. Make sure you have something to do with it. Easiest thing would be to line up a truck to take it off as you dig it out. Much less mess.

Yeah, it is a lot of dirt, especially for your pool...that hole is huge

I had a place in the back corner of my lot that I piled it...I have since used about 1/2 around the yard for various things.

Your deep end looks really good! What did you use to dig it? It is much smoother than mine was after the initial dig.

Re: One fool's method for doing a round AGP deep end...

As you can see in the back ground in the last picture. Everything was up. And here comes Tropical Storm Beryl. This pool was braced well. I bought land scaping (fence maybe) stakes and drove them in the ground. Anchored the wall to the fence using ratching straps. Used twine to tie through the skimmer to the fence. But alas, nothing could stop the force of this raging storm and my pool fell. Rome however was not built in a day, and what is a good story without a few setbacks right : )

All the credit goes to the operator. My cousin did the digging for me, and he grades for a living using huge equipment. To watch him shape that hole using the bucket mostly (the ground was so hard, raking was almost for nothing) was phenomenal. When I started, my initial plan was to sink the whole pool in the ground a foot, and then dig the deep end. But after getting through about 20% of the one foot depth, I backed out and refilled it. There was just too much dirt.

As it sits right now. Should be about 8" of water in it. Yard is still a mess. I am filling it while I am at work and having someone check on it throughout the day.

Re: One fool's method for doing a round AGP deep end...

Wow, that stinks about the wall getting blown over. Looks like very little damage though if the picture where the deep end is filled is of the wall in that area.

Re: One fool's method for doing a round AGP deep end...

It is actually over to the right, but here is a picture of where I am at in the process of filling as of 12:00 today. This pool is taking forever to fill up. But it is a biggun. The damaged part would be to the right side of the picture.

Re: One fool's method for doing a round AGP deep end...

Since supertune and jrh1010 have added greatly to this thread, I have renamed it "One fool's method (+ others) for doing a round AGP deep end".

I am not implying that supertune or jrh1010 are fools...or am I
