Old neglected pool, what to do??

Jessica,

Just to make sure we are all on the same page..

A Saltwater pool is a Chlorine pool..

With what we call a Chlorine pool, you manually have to add chlorine every day...

With a Saltwater pool, the Saltwater Chlorine Generator (SWCG), just uses the slightly salty pool water, and low voltage DC, to make all the chlorine the pool needs each day..

Thanks,

Jim R.
Thank you, Jim!

Most comparisons I do have the SWG we selected produce 1000 jugs worth of FC. It seems to usually land between 994 and 1005 for most people.

Would you like to *not* lug or dose 1000 gallons, one at a time ?

Would you like to save half of the cost of those first $1000 gallons and then 4X or even more the cost on replacement cells down the road ? (No controller needed as the original lasts several cells and no install costs.... an easy 10 min DIY swap).

Would you like consistent chorine additions that happen whether or not you have 18 things to do tonight, or have a stomach bug tomorrow?

Does that all sound OK ? I vote that it sounds non negotiable.

By the way, those 1000 jugs if purchased are Walmart cost $6168.96. The sales tax alone is $500 most places ($498.96 for me). I don't care what you spend on the cell or the install, it will have considerable ROI.
Thank you! What is ROI? And yes, I would like to not lug 1000 gallons!

Return on investment. Most salt systems cost about double the internet price to install when factoring in pool builder/service labor, some parts and the warranty. So if you're seeing a system for $1600 online, $3200 is likely fair for a pro install.

While it seems outragous, its half (?) of what the 1000 chlorine jugs would cost you in the long run.

The $500 controller lasts several cells so cells 2+ save a chunk. Plus you swap it out yourself in 10 mins saving the parts and labor that was half of the original cost, putting your savings at 4X or more for replacement cells.

For *not* lugging and dosing 1000 jugs. (Give or take, model and pool volume depending. Sometimes it's only 750, other times 1500 but I digress).

Hi! I have an old in ground concrete pool (you may remember me from previous questions I've asked). I understand I need to empty pool, clean it, put new water in it, and then do a pressure test/test plumbing (if I'm wrong, let me know please!) Is it better to power wash or acid wash?
Should I caulk expansion joint first or after cleaning the pool?
When should I fix damaged concrete (see skimmer)?
I was thinking I may have to replace equipment in which case, I may go salt water vs. chlorine.
A lot of questions here, I'm trying to learn how to best approach this. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!!!!

SWG cost to install by you the owner? Probably about $15 for a few pvc fittings and several zip ties.
In other words it is easy if you can cut (hacksaw) and glue.
As far as the equipment shed, i would tear it down. Its too hard to work on stuff inside. The new VS motor you will get is quiet so you wont need to hide the sound. If you want to hide equipment, put up a 3 sided fence enclosure.
