Aloha y'all!
My name is Woody, but I used Waiawa as my login, which means Fresh water channel in Hawaiian...I thought it was fitting for a pool!
I was born and raised in Hawaii, and moved to TX 5 years ago and loving it here!
We installed a pool on 11/12/20 and I took my first dip on Thanksgiving Day...Yay!
So now I'm trying to learn about all these chemicals and how to test the water by matching colors, which is a challenge.
I always need to ask my wife...which color matches the best!...LOL!
Stumbled upon this forum, and it looks to be a good place to start...did my first thread about Borates, and learned a lot about that too!
Received some good advice and leads to other links, which is always a good thing!
Glad I did since I have a dog, I guess he's not going to go swimming for a while!

Mahalo (thank you) to all you poolsters out there that know your stuff and also those like me that ask questions, which I can learn from too!

Hey Woody! Welcome to TFP. Glad you found us. Congrat's on the new pool. Do yourself and us a favor? Fill in your signature with the details of your pool and equipment, and include the kind of test kit you have. Something similar to my signature. That'll help the experts here answer your questions better and faster. Aloha!

Aloha Dirk!
Thanking for having me!
I filled in my signature as best as I could, I'm probably forgetting something, but here it is.

Had to jump in and say WELL DONE on the siggy!!! LOL a bunch of leaves hehe good one!

When you say "2 side drains" what do you mean? Can you take and share a pic?

Now know this...............we WANT you to ask any and all questions you might have. You don't know what you don't know and we were ALL there when we started.

Great signature, thx! Once you receive one of the two recommended test kits, we'll have you post the results from a full suite of the tests. Then we can have a look and make sure your pool is on track. Some of the equipment in your sig suggests some possible issues with the way you've been sanitizing your pool. But we can explain better about that after we see some test results...

Wai,

Great signature and welcome again! Experts here range from those taught by the school of experience and fancy academic institutions of learning and many with both. All here to help you learn to maintain a safe, gorgeous pool at the absolute minimum cost. Most of the people with "expert" or "moderator" have been here a long, long time. People like Kim and others are still here helping everybody. 6 years ago Kim also taught me the ropes that have been working for me ever since. We sell nothing so advice is never conflicted. Ask any question no matter how trivial you think it is... could be important.

Your questions, and their answers, are read by lots of other people, that might be too shy or embarrassed to ask the same questions! So no matter the "level" of question you need answered, you'll be helping others as well as yourself!

Hi Kim,
Thank you on the Well Done.
The drains are on the bottom, but on the side of the pool and not the floor.
I can take a pic, but how/where do I go to attach it?

Thanks on the Sig!
What?
Oh boy, my brain is getting a frying on all this info.
I'll post up once I get one of those kits and run some test.
I just tested this morning and this is what I have:
CL - 1.5
TA - 120
PH - 7.2
According to the Pool Calculator, I now need to add 43oz Liq Chlorine and 5lbs Borax...which I did however, I haven't retested yet.
I can't test for anything else other than do an Acid Demand, which I didn't think I needed to do.

I'll save you the trouble of more studying. Get a TF 100. That's the cheapest $/test. I still have mine several refills later. More important than optimizing the choice is pick one and get it on order. You need it to do TFP.
