...I have another question.
My pool manufacturer recommends Jack's Magic Blue Stuff to prevent staining of the fiberglass gel coat. Jack's typically recommends 32 oz/10k gallons at start up/opening. And then 3-4 oz/10k per week.
Last year, before I found TFP, I used copper based algaecide to kill some black algae. And then I used powder shock to shock the pool (per the suggestion by non TFP morons) weekly. I started to get copper staining on the gel-coat. I panicked. I did add Jack's last year to try to get rid of the staining. I also ended up with some copper cyanaurate staining of my skimmer, ladders, and chlorine float (and the thermometer too).
The good news is that this year, when I opened to pool to a swamp (1 inch thick algae on the walls and floor), is the algae seem to "eat" or at least bleach the copper staining (it is gone). I put two bottles of Blue Stuff in after the pool cleared up because I was afraid of any staining. I am not on a heater, so we don't get copper leaching from that, it was only from the algaecide last year.
So what is TFP's stance on Jack's Magic Blue Stuff? Should I be adding 6ozs per week as recommended by the pool manufacturer?
