Novice Pool Maintainer

You run the tests until there is no change in color. Then subtract the last drop.
WaterGuru is apparently a gadget some use. I see no use for it. You can search the forum for those that use it.
Email [email protected] for issues with the app.

You need CYA. Add stabilizer using the sock method. Add 30 ppm worth. Once dissolved from the sock(s), test CYA again in a few days.
Add enough acid to lower the pH by 0.4 points. Circulate pool for 30 minutes or so and retest. Continue adding acid until your pH is in the mid 7's. You will be adding acid every couple days until your TA gets below 80 ppm.

1. Does the water have to be pinkish red or very red for the TA test?
Add drops until the color does not change. Subtract that last drop.
2. What do you think of the devices like Water Guru for water testing?
They are expensive to use and should not be viewed as a replacement for drop testing. They are not as accurate. Some do like them to monitor trends.
3. My pool math app is not syncing across my devices (iPhone and iPad). I have switch toggled to the "On" position in iCloud setting on both devices.
You need to log in with the same username/pw. You should use your TFP UN/PW so you can share your logs.

Cool, got it.

Ok, thanks for your advice.

Hello Marty,
When using the sock method, should I use the method of hanging the sock in front of of the skimmer with the pool cleaning pole?

Thanks

You hang it in front of a pool return with the pump running.

Or, you can place the sock in the skimmer. Be sure it does not restrict the flow of water through the skimmer. With our warm pool water temperatures, it will dissolve pretty rapidly.

Right On! Good morning Marty! Thanks!

I use hairnets in my skimmer basket -- makes cleaning the basket easy and also reduces amount of stuff that goes to the filter. So when I need to add a little CYA, I just pour it in the skimmer and it is caught by the hairnet. Dissolves quickly.

Hello Marty, I have 4 pound bags of stabilizer. Is it cool to put one whole bag into the skimmer at a time?

You cannot constrict the flow. And I do not believe a mesh laundry bag is fine enough of mesh. At least the ones I have seen are not.
