Noise from my new B&D VSP

My new pump started making weird noise:

Can be heard on each speed. I removed the cover of the motor fan, but everything is OK there. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Poolpartstogo replaced the pump with a brand new one. It is running 3 weeks now - no noise.

Hi hexabc. Did B&D tell you what the cause was? My Black & Decker VS 2HP pool pump. Bought on Amazon and installed by me on 2/23/23. Worked excellent and super quiet until today 8/20/23 I noticed it's making a noise that sounds like a playing card in the bicycle spokes. I shut pump off, turned off breaker, drained pump, removed back cover: turns freely, no debris in the fins. Then I removed the inlet screen basket and I could turn the impeller easily with my fingers and I did not hear or feel anything that sounds like it could be impeding the impeller. I didn’t follow up with them. The replacement pump is very quiet at 1600 rpm (can’t hear it from the distance of 10 ft), and that’s the speed it runs most of the time. Didnt try anything higher than 2200 rpm.
What’s the speed in the video?

1800rpm. At different speeds it makes the noise, but proportionately less or more as speed varies. I sent an email to B&D service and I'm awaiting response. Thanks.

I contacted B&D. The tech asked me to remove the inlet basket and flush the impeller cavity backwards in order to confirm lack of debris contacting the impeller. I did that and made a new video

After he saw the video he wrote that they will send me a new pump. That is excellent customer service, but I hope I do not need to replace the pump too often, even if it's free.

That’s horrible. To me it sounds like a mechanical problem, but I’m not an expert. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in…

B&D has excellent customer service and I love the pump (except for the new noise.) A defective unit can happen to any manufacturer but how they respond is a measure of integrity. I was asked to remove the video of the defective unit and I complied.
