Newbie!!

You can use @kimkats sample method, grab a turkey baster and suck some up, then qently squirt some on a paper towel, is it gritty, does it "disappear", is it slimy? etc :D
Haven’t picked up a baster yet - but it hasn’t gotten any worse. Added 2 gallons of bleach this morning- chlorine still seems low. I added it to the skimmer, is that the correct way to add?

Always add chlorine near the return jet(s). That way it can disperse with the flow of water. You rarely add anything directly to the skimmer simply because many chemicals are so strong.

When in doubt, go to the Recommended Pool Chemicals - Trouble Free Pool page and you'll see instructions for each chemical at the end of each paragraph.

@Texas Splash Ok, I have been in the Plumbing biz since I was old enough to help my dad, so bare with me. When I hear return, I think sucking (supply would be pressure “blowing”). You guys are referring to the jets blowing out in the pool as the return jets, correct? I guess looking at it another way, it’s the water returning to the pool from the pump?

Inlet (skimmer/suction) = in to the pump (out of the pool)
Outlet (Return) = out of the pump (in to the pool)
The easiest way for me to remember, is what is the water doing in relation to the pump?
