Newbie here, fresh vs salt in a hot tub

Greetings! My name is Jacob and my wife and I are looking into hot Tubs, as of late the "Hot Springs" brand and 3 of their models. The envoy, prism and the flair. They all have the option to be their "Freshwater saltwater system" but is it worth it to incur the 300/year in consumables alone, for saltwater?

Science aside, what do you prefer?

I think there are separate SWGs that can be put over the edge of a hot tub and dont cost that much in consumables.

I'll admit I have no idea what a "Freshwater saltwater" system is.. But it sounds like all marketing speak to me and it is for sure if you have to buy their chemicals to make it work. If they say it will take $300 in chemicals, that means more like $600...

I use the system that Allen was talking about... I got tired try to maintain the right chemical balance in my hot tub that I bought used... I added a Saltron Mini and have been quite happy ever since. This of course means that I have real saltwater, like a swimming pool would have, at about 3000 ppm.. For reference the ocean has about 35,000 ppm of salt.

It runs about 5 hours a night and I rarely add anything to the spa anymore.

Just to be clear this unit does not get installed inside your hot tub's plumbing, it is all external.

I sure am glad I don't have the kind of tub that requires "$300/year in consumables" !!
I do find the hot tub more costly than the pool to maintain gallon per gallon though, in its own way. Due to the drains, refills, Ahh-some treatments, etc. But *hardly* $300!

Actually, before I added my Saltron Mini SWG, I doubt I spent $50/year on the hot tub?!?
