Our school reactivated a pool after almost a decade of dormancy and I'm one of the people charged with it's upkeep. I've spent many an hour using pools but never wondered much why sometimes my eyes burned or it smelled like I was swimming in a chemical swamp. I've learned a bit about these things but have a long way to go. Thanks in advance to any and all help.

Public pools may have regulations that you must follow prescribed by your municipality.

Water testing is most important to avoid problems. I would suggest the school invest in a well trusted and easy to use test kit-
