We just had our pool resurfaced with wet edge prism matrix finish. The pool reno company provided detailed daily instructions for what chemical levels to achieve over the next two weeks. When I went to buychemicals today, the guy at Leslie’s (who said he’s been doing this for 10 years) was adamant that I not add anything except for muriatic acid for four weeks. Help!

Ignore all Pool Store advice, especially Leslies. Always!

Plenty of Start-Up guides linked to in Plaster Start-Up Guides - Further Reading to compare your detailed daily instructions with other guides.

Thanks! The article you provided is helpful. It instructs not to use liquid chlorine, which has been my primary source of chlorine for the past three years prior to replastering. Should I assume that I am to use tablets or granular shock, instead (once I'm able to add chlorine)?

Where does it say not to use liquid chlorine?

That is the best way to chlorinate a pool, except for a SWG, which cannot be used for 30 days after new plaster.

This is quoted from the article linked to above:

"One other point, do not use liquid chlorine for the first month unless you add acid at the same time. Liquid chlorine has a very high pH and could cause scaling when added if not neutralized by adding acid more than 15 minutes after, not at the same time, and brushing afterwards to remove scale (if present) and to circulate the water."

So, a more accurate reading would be that liquid chlorine is ok when you also add muriatic acid 15 minutes later??

That is correct. Test pH 15 minutes after adding liquid chlorine and adjust it as necessary.
