New vinyl liner this year and AK still is high?

Hello TFP members,

I had a new vinyl liner installed this year 6/17/19. Filled 22k from hydrant that was flushed well and water is not well water but city water. Some copper was noted but I used GLB Sequa-Sol to sequester. I use GLB strips for testing and AquaChek digital reader to compare. They are both different readings. Drives me nuts. I have been trying to drive my AK down with PH down very often but my AK is still high according to both testing tools. My PH was 8.4 with AquaChek and low like 6.8 with GLB strips. My CL was under 2 with AquaChek and around 1.5 with strips. The pool store software as of 7/8/19 registered - AK 185. Ph 7.9 and CL 1.5. I did shock the other night to raise the CL but water is a bit cloudy and a white-ish sediment (pic attached) rests on the floor, in the corners and when I brush it goes away but water becomes cloudy in that area. Is my AK too high that is causing the cloudiness? And if I lower AK with PH down ... that will also lower my PH levels to a acidic low? Someone told me if the AK is high ... the PH is hard to change until its within the acceptable range 80-120 ... so it should not drive my PH levels down too much ? I use Ultima Total Control for Shock. Quantum sticks in basket. Runnng pump 18hrs straight.

Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

The cornerstone of TFP is pool owner testing with an accurate test kit. Test strips and pool store tests do not meet that standard.

I suggest you consider getting proper test kit, see Test Kits Compared. The TF-100 Test Kit ™ is the best value for the residential pool owner.
